Eyelash Lift Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours After an Eyelash Tint

By Heena’s Threading Salon Midtown East | October 2, 2026

My simplest rule after an Eyelash Tint is this: keep your lashes dry and hands-off for the first 24 to 48 hours. Our eyelash tint is a quick 15-minute service, but the way you treat your lash line right after matters a lot for how even the color looks and how long it hangs on in New York.

Eyelash tint aftercare in the first 48 hours at Heena’s Threading Salon Midtown East

If you’re in Midtown East or coming through Grand Central and you booked this because you want low-maintenance definition, I get it. A good tint makes your eyes look “awake” without mascara. The tradeoff is tiny: you protect it for two days, and you usually get a cleaner, longer-lasting result.

The first 24 to 48 hours: the rules that keep your tint even

Right after your eyelash and tint appointment, I want you thinking about three things: water, steam, and oils. Those are the big reasons tints fade faster or look patchy at the ends.

48-hour priority list: No wetting the lashes, no hot steam on the face, and no rubbing your lash line. If you do nothing else, do this.

Washing your face (yes, you can still be clean)

I generally recommend you avoid splashing water directly onto your lashes for the first 24 to 48 hours. You can still cleanse the rest of your face. Use an oil-free cleanser, keep it lower on the cheeks and forehead, and when you get to the eye area, press a lightly damp cloth gently instead of scrubbing. Pat dry. Don’t drag the towel across your lashes.

Showering in NYC apartments (aka, the steam test)

You can shower, but keep the water warm, not hot, and try to keep your face out of the direct spray. Steam is sneaky. It loosens oils on the skin and encourages rubbing. If you’re heading home to Turtle Bay near 2nd Avenue and East 55th Street, it’s a good night for a quick shower, not a long, steamy one.

Makeup, mascara, and serums

Hold off on mascara and lash serums that contain oils for at least 24 to 48 hours. When you do go back to mascara, I like water-based formulas and a light hand. Heavy coats and aggressive removal shorten the life of your tint fast.

Days 3 to 7: keep the color longer, especially in hot NYC summers

Once you’re past the first 48 hours, your tint is set, but it still needs gentle habits. In New York, this is where real life kicks in: humidity, sweat, subway heat, and that urge to rub your eyes when you’re tired.

  • Gym and sweating: I prefer you wait the full 24 to 48 hours before heavy sweating. After that, blot sweat instead of wiping across the lash line.
  • Swimming: Pools and salt water tend to fade tint faster. If you can, avoid swimming for 24 to 48 hours. If you do swim later in the week, rinse your face gently afterward and don’t scrub the lashes.
  • Saunas and steam rooms: Steam is still a tint’s enemy. If you love a sauna, keep it short and skip rubbing your eyes right after.
  • Winter dryness: When indoor heat is running, lashes and lids dry out. That can make you rub without realizing it. If your eyes feel dry, use a clean tissue to dab, not your fingers.

If you’re rushing between meetings or hopping on the train at Grand Central, keep blotting paper and sunglasses in your bag. It sounds simple, but it cuts down on eye rubbing, especially in summer.

Oil-free only: the products and habits I want around your lash line

The fastest way to fade a tint is to use oil-based removers and rich eye creams right on the lashes. They break down pigment and they make lashes slippery, so you end up rubbing harder. Keep it simple.

My quick routine (takes under a minute)

  • Cleanse your face with an oil-free cleanser, keeping the lash line gentle.
  • If you wear makeup, choose an oil-free remover and press with a cotton pad instead of scrubbing back and forth.
  • At night, brush lashes lightly with a clean spoolie. It keeps them neat and helps you avoid picking or rubbing.

If you also do a salon eyebrow tint or threading with me, the same mindset applies. Gentle cleansing and less friction keeps pigment and shape looking crisp.

When to text or call me, and when to book your next tint (4 to 6 weeks)

A little awareness right after your appointment goes a long way. If you accidentally wet your lashes once, don’t panic. Just stop rubbing, pat dry, and go back to oil-free products. What I don’t want is repeated soaking, steam, and heavy mascara removal in the first couple days.

“The service is consistently excellent, friendly, warm, and never rushed… Everything feels clean, safe, and intentional.”

If you notice irritation that feels unusual for you, swelling, or anything that worries you, reach out. I’d rather talk it through than have you guessing. I’m in Midtown East, near 2nd Avenue and East 55th Street in Manhattan, so it’s easy to swing by for a quick check if you’re already in the neighborhood.

Most people like a retint every 4 to 6 weeks. If you’re coming in from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Jersey City, Hoboken, or Long Island City, planning that window ahead makes it a lot easier to stay consistent.

If you’re pairing tint with other services, take a look at Threading & Brow/Lash Enhancements. It’s a helpful overview if you’re deciding between brow tint, lash lift & tint, or threading maintenance.
