Marma Therapy Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours
By Heena’s Threading Salon Midtown East | August 21, 2026
Marma Therapy (60 minutes, $85) in New York, NY
The single most important rule after marma therapy is this: give your body a quiet 48 hours. That means rest when you can, drink plenty of water, and skip anything that pushes heat and heavy sweating. Marma work is gentle, but it can feel deep because I’m working with marma points, those vital junctions where tissues meet. If you’re coming from Midtown East or heading back through Grand Central, plan for an easy walk home and a calm night.
First 24 hours after Marma Therapy: keep it simple, keep it calm
Right after your session, I want you thinking “downshift.” A lot of my Midtown East clients are coming out of high-pressure days, and the biggest mistake is jumping straight back into a workout, a long steam, or a sprint through a hot subway platform.
For the first 24 hours, I generally recommend:
- Drink water steadily, not all at once.
- Eat light meals that sit easy. Heavy, greasy food tends to make you feel sluggish.
- Wear breathable clothing and keep your body comfortably warm.
- Skip alcohol. It dehydrates you and can make you feel “off” after bodywork.
- Avoid intense exercise and anything that leaves you drenched in sweat.
What you might feel in the first day
Mild fatigue is common. Some people also notice a temporary soreness or an emotional release, like they’re more sensitive than usual. That tends to pass quickly when you rest, hydrate, and keep your schedule lighter.
If you’re in New York summer humidity, sweating can sneak up on you. I’d rather you plan your commute to avoid peak heat, or schedule at a time that lets you cool down after your session instead of rushing back into a sticky afternoon.
24 to 48 hours: protect the marma points and avoid “too much”
This is the window where people either keep feeling better, or they accidentally cancel out the calm by piling on heat, friction, and stimulation. If you’re tempted to “sweat it out, ” don’t. Give your nervous system a chance to settle.
Avoid for at least 48 hours: intense exercise, heavy sweating, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, alcohol, and aggressive exfoliation.
Gentle movement is usually fine. Think an easy walk, light stretching, or anything that doesn’t spike your heart rate and leave you flushed. If you work out regularly, I’d rather you take one rest day than push through and feel drained afterward.
If I suggested warming the area or keeping your body a little cozier at night, follow that. People sleep surprisingly well after marma massage when they stay warm and don’t overdo stimulation late in the evening.
After 48 hours: getting back to workouts, heat, and real life in Manhattan
After the 48-hour mark, most people can ease back into normal routines. I still like a gradual return if you’re the type who goes hard at the gym or loves long hot baths.
Exercise: Start with moderate intensity. If you feel overly tired afterward, scale back and add another easy day.
Heat: Bring back showers and warm baths first. Save sauna or steam for when you feel fully normal again.
Workdays: If you can, keep one lighter evening in your week. Marma therapy tends to “land” best when you don’t cram your schedule.
I’m near 2nd Avenue and East 55th Street in Midtown East, so a lot of people fit a session in after work and then take a calm walk home. If you’re coming in from Brooklyn, Queens, Jersey City, Hoboken, or Long Island City, build in a little buffer time so you’re not rushing and overheating right after your appointment.
Oils, moisturizers, and skincare after marma massage: what I actually want you to do
Keep your product routine simple for two days. Right after marma therapy, your body often responds best to fewer inputs, not more.
- If I gave you specific oiling or self-massage instructions, follow those exactly. I’ll keep it realistic for your schedule.
- If you want to moisturize, stick to a gentle, fragrance-light option and use a light hand. Don’t scrub it in like you’re exfoliating.
- Skip aggressive exfoliation for at least 48 hours. That includes rough body scrubs and intense brushing.
- Hold off on trying new products right now. If you react, you won’t know what caused it.
Quick habit that helps: Set a reminder to drink water and take 3 slow breaths every couple of hours. It sounds small, but it keeps the “calm” from your marma points work with you through a busy New York day.
When to reach out to me after Marma Therapy (and when it’s urgent)
If you feel mild soreness, fatigue, or a little emotional for a day, that’s usually within the normal range. Rest, hydrate, and keep heat and heavy sweating off the table.
Please reach out to me if you have symptoms that feel severe, don’t improve, or worry you. And if you have severe or persistent pain, swelling, or fever, don’t wait. Get medical care right away.
"The service is consistently excellent, friendly, warm, and never rushed."

Rebooking timing: If you’re wondering when it’s safe to have another session, I’ll base it on how you felt in the first 48 hours and what you’re working on. Some people like a short series close together, others do best spacing it out.
If you want to schedule around your commute, I’m easy to get to in Midtown East near 2nd Avenue and East 55th Street. And if you’re traveling in from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Jersey City, Hoboken, or Long Island City, I’ll help you pick a time that doesn’t leave you sweating through the ride home.
